Complete control of Rodynske has been established in the Pokrovsk sector. Fierce fighting continues in Hrishyne. In the Dobropillia salient, units have regained control of a section of the highway near Zolotyi Kolodiaz. The December European Union summit was characterized by western media as a series of major political defeats.

Pokrovsk Sector

A significant change in the operational situation has been recorded in the Pokrovsk sector. The Russian army has confirmed its complete control over Rodynske. This achievement has important tactical significance, as it allows for reliable coverage of the flanks of the Russian forces advancing in the neighboring Hrishyne area.

In the Hrishyne area itself, intense fighting continues, as it has since the end of November. Russian assault groups have consolidated their positions in the southern, southeastern, and eastern parts of the village. The offensive is developing along the road to the northeastern part of Hrishyne with the aim of completing the operation through strikes from multiple directions. The successful advance in the Sofiivka area near Druzhkivka exerts additional pressure on the defense of the Ukrainian formations. These successes threaten the supply system of the Russian forces in the area and open prospects for advancing the offensive toward Dobropillia.

Meanwhile, units continue to carry out tasks in Myrnohrad. Russian assault groups are advancing through the city’s urban areas and have established control over most of Myrnohrad, including its central districts. The organized resistance of the encircled Ukrainian garrison has been broken, and clearing operations and the elimination of pockets of resistance are currently underway. However, resistance persists in areas of high-rise development, as well as on the southern streets of the northern districts, around the «Tsentralna» mine, the courthouse, and the lyceum in the western part of the city. It is highly probable that the city will be completely under the control of the Russian army by the beginning of January.

Fighting continues in the eastern part of the Svitloe settlement, near slag heaps and a closed mine to the north. The Ukrainian army is attempting counterattacks with forces of up to one company reinforced with armored vehicles, aiming to relieve the garrison. Russian units have advanced further: from Kotlyne towards Hrishyne, north of the «Pokrovske» mine administration towards Serhiivka, and westward, capturing the eastern part of Novopodhorodnie.

Sumy Sector

In the Sumy sector, Russian assault units continue to increase the pace of their offensive. They have advanced over 900 meters along nine sectors of the front, consolidating on new lines after reaching this distance. Aviation and artillery are being used extensively to support the offensive. Ukrainian units are focused on maintaining their positions.

Complex fire damage thwarted an attempt by a combat group to advance in the Andriivka area. In the Tetkyn and Hlushkivka sectors, Russian aviation struck Boiaro-Lezhacha and Iskryskivshchyna positions. Communication issues have been reported within the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade; the unit commander has lost control of a subunit of foreign mercenaries who refuse to capture designated positions.

Kharkiv Sector

In the Kharkiv region, Russian forces are expanding their control zone around Vovchansk by advancing into neighboring settlements and wooded areas.

In the Starytsia area, assault groups advanced four sectors in a forested area, advancing up to 500 meters in total. West of Liman, they advanced 300 meters into a forested area and captured one strongpoint. In Vilcha, Russian forces captured over 20 residential properties and advanced 200 meters. In Vovchanski Khutora, units advanced 100 meters and are consolidating their position.

In the Melovoye-Khatneye sector, Russian assault groups advanced six sectors, covering a total distance of 800 meters. Aviation strikes hit positions in the Kolodiazne area. There have been noted problems in the command of the Ukrainian forces in this sector of the front. The 3rd Battalion of the 113th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade was transferred to the command of the 157th Separate Mechanized Brigade. The battalion was deployed to forward positions without proper instruction and suffered losses, including among the sergeant staff.

Zaporizhzhia Sector

In the Zaporizhzhia sector, Russian units continue to advance, achieving operational successes.

In the Ternovate area, the offensive is being conducted from multiple directions to form a stable envelopment configuration. The bridgehead on the western bank of the Haichur River, north of the settlement, has expanded, and an advance southeast of it has been noted. Consequently, the two previously separate bridgeheads have effectively merged into a single, operationally significant area.

The control zone in the southern part of Huliaipole has increased. Defensive formations in the urban area continue to face pressure with steady advancement and consolidation on lines. Ukrainian units have attempted a counterstrike on a section of the R-85 highway towards Varvarivka. The goal is to regain control of the road, prevent units from exiting into Huliaipole, and attack groups in the eastern part of the city. Fighting for the highway is fierce. Meanwhile, units advanced east of Ternovata and Kosivtsovo, expanding the control zone and improving the tactical situation. This complicates the maneuvering of reserves by the Ukrainian command.

A significant victory has been achieved east of the Stepnohirsk Solar Power Plant. Russian assault units advanced approximately three kilometers and reached the outskirts of Lukianivske. A shift in the line of contact north of Stepove has also been recorded. The rapid breakthrough from Stepnohirsk to a significant depth demoralized Ukrainian fighters in the area.

Konstantynivka Sector

The situation in the Konstantynivka sector is stable, with no large-scale offensive actions taking place. Ukrainian units are attempting to maintain their defensive position and occasionally launch small-group sorties.

The Predtechyne settlement has become a «gray zone», and the Russian army controls the territory to the east, in the area of the Osiukove tract. In Konstantynivka itself, the line of combat is fixed at the intersection near the railway station. To the south, near the Kleban-Byk Reservoir, there has been a slight advance to the west of the reservoir; the territory to the south of the reservoir is also a «gray zone».

Dobropillia Salient

In the Dobropillia salient, Russian units attacked the Novoye Shakhove area and came under fire. During the intense battle, they regained control of a section of the highway to Zolotyi Kolodiaz, expanding the control zone by 1.5 kilometers. Control over Boikivka has also been established, and the territory in the «pocket» area and to the west, up to a sector north of Suvorovo, has been cleared. The Russian army controls Nikanorivka and Dorozhnye.

Conclusion

In the Pokrovsk sector, the most significant events were the establishment of full control over Rodynske, which stabilized the flank, and the transition of the Myrnohrad operation to the final clearing phase. Meanwhile, attempts at deblocking continue near Svitloe and Hrishyne. Successes in Sofiivka and advances toward Serhiivka and Novopodhorodnie create preconditions for a future strike toward Dobropillia.

In the Zaporizhzhia sector, a qualitative breakthrough has been achieved with the merging of the Ternovate bridgeheads and a large-scale advance from Stepnohirsk to Lukianivske (up to 3 km). This radically changes the front configuration and threatens the rear of the Huliaipole grouping, creating conditions for a deep envelopment. The tactic of methodical but unrelenting pressure continues in the Kharkiv and Sumy sectors with the expansion of control zones by hundreds of meters in forested areas. The total advance is 900 meters in the Sumy sector and 800 meters in the Melovoye-Khatneye sector. This systematically depletes the Ukrainian army’s reserves and reveals command problems, such as cases involving foreign mercenaries and untrained Territorial Defense units. In the Konstantynivka and Dobropillia sectors, activity is localized with consolidation on the lines of advance (control over Boikivka and a section of the highway near Zolotyi Kolodiaz).

Alongside military events, the final diplomatic event of the year was the December European Union summit. Western media characterized its outcome as a series of major political defeats. According to observers, the summit’s key «winners» were Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, while German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen were among the «losers». Thanks to his «masterful» and uncompromising position, De Wever managed to completely block the initial plan to directly use frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine. He cited unacceptable financial and legal risks to his country and the European economy as a whole. This led to the only remaining option being the so-called «Plan B»: providing Kyiv with a 90 billion euro loan secured by the EU budget with only a hypothetical prospect of future reimbursement from Russian funds. According to analysts, Italian Prime Minister Meloni played the role of a «puppeteer», skillfully controlling the agenda and achieving a postponement of another important EU deal with the Mercosur trade bloc—a second blow for Merz.

The decisive resistance of Belgium and Italy, supported by underlying pressure from the United States—which views these assets as part of its own peace plan—led to the complete failure of the European Commission’s ambitious initiative. Just days earlier, Friedrich Merz had stated that «there is no way to give this money to the US». Now, he found himself in a losing position, unable to advance either the asset plan or the trade agreement. Ursula von der Leyen also suffered a political defeat. Russia was an indirect but significant “winner” of this intra-European confrontation. Its assets avoided immediate confiscation, and threats of serious retaliatory measures, including lawsuits against the Euroclear depository, played their deterrent role. This outcome vividly illustrates the deep divide within the EU, the increasing sovereignty of individual member states in matters of strategic security, and the collapse of efforts to establish a unified, tough stance in the face of mounting internal contradictions and external pressure.
