On the night of September 29, Russian Su-35S crashed in southern Ukraine. According to the reports from the front, the aircraft was shot down by friendly fire.
The Su-35S of the Russian Aerospace Forces was shot down by the Russian air defence forces as a result of an error. The pilot was killed. The aircraft crashed in a field near the village of Novonikolaevka near Tokmak in the Zaporozhye region. The incident took place more than 35 km from the frontlines near Rabotino.
The wreckage was reportedly filmed by the Ukrainian Shark reconnaissance UAV, which in its turn was allowed to enter the Russian rear and was not shot down by Russian forces.

This is at least the 4th recorded case when the Russian air defense shot down their own aircraft. In the summer of 2022, the SU-34 and SU-35 of the Russian Aerospace Forces were shot down in two days, presumably by Russian air defense.

i don´t get what is the point of producing these su-30/35 planes , they are not stealth, not as capable as su-34´s and not as fast as mig-31´s
1st – you have to understand that the so called “stealth” is overrated as in this day and age any flying aircraft leaves a signature. 2nd – you have to understand that each tool is specific to the task, a mechanic needs screw drivers but also needs wrenches and other tools to do his job. 3rd – su30 and su35 are not the same aircraft at all as they have very different purpose.
su30 is a great “multi-role” platform, its job is to hit both ground and air targets. su35 is for “front-line” aviation or “air dominance” if you prefer, it is a heavy air to air combat platform which is used at the front of the fight for air supremacy. su34 is another unique platform called “fighter bomber”, it is a bomber that can also defend itself against “fighters”.
mig31 is a “fighter interceptor” it is equipped with special weaponry and fly very fast because its job is to intercept air targets, missiles or aircraft. + the rest of the fighting tools, su25, tu95, tu160, su24, mig35… also have their own specific “roles”.
in the event of a massive air supremacy fight it will not be a “beyond visual range” (bvr) only combat like some foolishly believe because sooner or later it will result in “merges” and the air force with the most capable pilots, most maneuverable aircraft, most accurate weapons and best tactics will win the fight. not the fastest nor the stealthiest so keep that in mind.

my final com about speed refers to a (wvr) “merge” situation where energy is bled gradually during the chase as one attempts to position itself behind the other. this happens at subsonic speeds as pilots are progressively limited by g load in turns so high maneuverability is a decisive advantage. (greater thrust to weight ratio also is, so you don’t want to be “loaded”.)

35km from front line is not so far and if it’s really friendly fire, then yes, that is a serious problem and it should be resolved as fast as possible.
