A colonel of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, on the instructions of a former serviceman of the State Border Service, illegally exported weapons and ammunition from the area of the Joint Forces Operation in Eastern Ukraine.
Another suspect was also reportedly arrested.
This was reported in a statement by the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine.
As established by the investigation, the ammunition and weapons were stolen by a former border guard during his service in 2015-2017, and was stored in a garage rented by him in Severodonetsk.
“In September 2019, during a search (while the suspect was trying to export the items), almost 6,000 5.45 mm rounds of ammunition, more than 4,000 7.62 mm rounds of ammunition, 4 RPG-26 grenades, 1 RPG-22 anti-tank grenade were seized in the suspect’s official’s government-provided vehicle. In addition, 5 unified fuses for hand grenades, 5 RGD-5 grenades and an F-1 grenade more were discovered,” the investigative committee’s report said.
Both defendants were informed about suspicion of illegal handling of ammunition (part 1 of article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Now they will have a criminal case opened against them.
Urgent investigative actions are ongoing to identify possible buyers of ammunition and other persons involved in the illegal scheme.
In case of proof of guilt, the suspects face punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 3 to 7 years.

According to information published by the Russian press agency TASS on August 20, 2020, Russian Navy Admiral Nakhimov Kirov-class upgraded heavy nuclear cruiser of project 11442M left the pool of Sevmash Shipyard and berthed at the embankment, the enterprise said. The cruiser had large units and hull constructions replaced and new insulation and cables installed. 3D modeling was used in the overhaul.
The warship will now have life-support systems, radio-technical equipment, power supplies, missile and artillery arms replaced. Admiral Nakhimov will have new tactical characteristics and will reinforce the surface fleet of the Russian Navy. The Defense Ministry said Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov chaired a meeting on the overhaul and upgrade of the cruiser and called to closely interact with the United Shipbuilding Corporation and strictly observe the overhaul schedule. Admiral Nakhimov is the third battlecruiser of the Russian Navy’s Kirov class. The Admiral Nakhimov Orlan-class cruiser was laid on May 17, 1983 by the Baltic Shipyard and floated on April 25, 1986. It joined the Navy on December 30, 1988 as the Kalinin. The cruiser was renamed in 1992.
Sevmash has been overhauling the warship since 1999. The upgrade has actually begun in 2013. The cruiser will be armed with 174 VLS (Vertical Launching System) tubes including Kalibr anti-surface missiles and Onix anti-ship cruise missiles and Tsirkon hypersonic missile in the future.
Kirov class accommodates three Kamov Ka-27PL or Ka-25RT helicopters. The Kamov-27 (Nato codename Helix) is equipped for anti-submarine warfare with surface search radar, sonobuoys, dipping sonar, and magnetic anomaly detectors. The Ka-27 can be armed with torpedoes, bombs, mines and rockets. The Ka-25RT (Hormone) helicopter is the predecessor of the Ka-27. The propulsion system of the Kirov Class consits on a combination of nuclear power and steam turbine, with four nuclear reactors and two auxiliary boilers. The four steam turbines deliver 28,000hp. Two shafts drive two five-bladed, fixed-pitch propellers. The propulsion system provides a full speed of 31kt.
