Late on November 3, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), which is backed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, announced that it had launched another attack on Israel in response to what it called “massacres” against Palestinians in the Gaza Strop.
In a brief statement, the IRI said that the attack targeted the southern Israeli city of Eilat, without providing any further details.
No blasts or interceptions were reported by Hebrew media in Eilat or surrounding areas before or after the IRI’s announcement.
This was IRI’s second attack against Israel. On November 2, the group said that it had hit a “vital” Israeli target on the shores of the Dead Sea and released a photo showing a mysterious cruise missile that is thought to be made by Iran and designated as type “351” by the United States military and intelligence.
The IRI formed a special operations room to support Gaza following the October 17 Al-Ahli Arab Hospital massacre and joined the war by launching attacks against United States bases in Iraq and Syria.
So far, the group has carried out more than two dozen attacks against hosting U.S. troops. On November 3, it announced a rocket attack against Kharab Al-Jir Airstrip in the northeastern Syrian governorate of al-Hakash and early on November 4 it said that al-Harir Air Base in the northern Iraqi autonomous region of Kurdistan was targeted with two drones.
The IRI’s attacks have already forced the U.S. to reinforce its bases in the Middle East with more than 1,000 troops and a dozen air defense systems.
To face the growing threat from Iraq, Israel will have to allocate more air defenses to its northern, eastern and southern regions. It could also request support from U.S. warplanes and air defenses currently deployed at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in neighboring Jordan.
